Nusa Lembongan is located at the South of Bali mainland and is one of the most favorite places to visit when in the island. With low number of visitors with amazing hotspots to choose from, it is no wonder that Nusa Lembongan continues to be the must visit part in Bali.

HOW TO GET THERE :

Nusa Lembongan is very accessible from mainland Bali. It only requires a 30 minute taxi ride from Seminyak or 20 minutes if you prefer the motorbike, to get to Sanur Beach. This is where you can hop on the fast boat to Nusa Lembongan. Take any option that is available ( Rocky, Marlin or Dream Beach Express), and you should not pay more than Rp 300.000 per person for round trup. The departure schedule is hourly all day long, so there isn’t need to rush when you plan to board the boat. You will also be given the option to go to Mushroom Bay or Jungut Batu, both on Nusa Lembongan.

The trip takes about 20 minutes or more and depending on the ocean waves, you should prepare some seasick pills before boarding. Enroute, there is the Gili island that makes for a fun island hopping. Once you disembark the boat, you will have your ride on the standby if you have booked any accommodation prior.

Dream Beach Huts

There are many popular options for staying the night when in Nusa Lembongan. One of the favorite ones is Dream Beach Huts which is a complex of bungalow with gorgeous ocean view and melodious sounds of the waves all through the night. They also have an amazing pool with scenic view, where you get to enjoy the sunset and have your drinks delivered from the staff at any moment.

Another popular option for inland stay is Secret Point Huts on Nusa Ceningan. It is especially popular for surfing activity and with an epic beach to go along with. Good service and spacious rooms are provided here too. For more affordable options, there are plenty of choices once you take a boat to Jungut Batu and stroll down the beaches to find your best pick.

GETTING AROUND:

It is most recommended to rent a motorbike when you are at Nusa Lembongan. The roads are less packed with traffic and you shouldn’t encounter any problem. With just Rp 75.000/ day for a motorbike rent, you will get to explore on the island by your own pace. Other alternatives for getting around include : bicycle rent, Gold Buggy taxi service or Golf Buggy rental. For quick short travel, hire an ojek where someone will escort you to your destination by motorbike. It’s basically a scooter with driver and they are quite affordable too.

Walking can be a great option to getting around because the island is quite easy to navigate with quiet roads to explore. Get your free guidebook or map from hotels or any restaurant.

SURFING:

Nusa Lembongan is the “it” place for surfers with some excellent waves and reef breaks. A 10 minute scooter ride will take you to the other side of Nusa Lembongan with a connecting bridge to Nusa Ceningan with similarly interesting surfing spots. The later is quite reserved for experienced surfers only though, as it has a reputation of sharks and seaweed sticks.

Best time to surf would be anytime from April to September/ October where winds are the most favorable.

EXPLORING:

Crossing over the bridge of Nusa Lembongan to Nusa Ceningan will get you to a small and quiet seaweed farming island. Don’t miss out on Blue Lagoon as well, where you’ll be challenged to jump of a 14 metre cliff into the ocean. Also, “Secret Beach” is exceptionally nice and still remains as one of the best hidden beach in Bali.

There is a nearby local eatery namely Mahana Point Warung which is a nice spot for you to catch a break and view the greatness in front of you. There’s also a nice spot right next on the beach that is called Secret Point Huts.

There are 2 beaches in this area : Sandy Bay and Dream Beach, and right in the middle of it is a point called Devil’s Tear. This would make for the best spot to see sunsets and giant crashing waves against the limestone cliffs. It is indeed a picture perfect spot for picturesque view.

Snorkeling is also an activity you must not miss here. Get on a local fishing boat where you will be provided all the gears for less than Rp 200.000/ person. The best snorkelling area there is the Manta Point on Nusa Peninda which is just 25 minutes away. It is well known for its Manta Rays where they make their special appearance during certain times of the year. Mola Mola fish is also another sea creature that is aplenty here, you’ll be sure to catch some glimpse of these adorable sea animals.

DIVING:

With no shortage of dive shops on Lembongan, mostly in Mushroom Bay and Jungut Batu, you will be spoilt for diving options here. The crystal clear waters will make for an outstanding diving activity. Around the area of Nusa Penida is the 20,000 hectares of protected marine area. The drift drives can be challenging at times, but the diving instructors will have made sure on the sea conditions before taking divers out to explore.

PLACES TO EAT:

When you are in Nusa Lembongan, visit Le Pirate at Ceningan for their heavenly dishes and cocktails. They also provide good music with the most fun and chill-out vibe, pool and seaweed farming scenes. Another must visit is the Beach Club at Sandy Bay- which has a more upscale chill-out vibe. They serve famous BBQ grill and fajitas that are quite affordable too. For an even more high-end setting, head to Indiana Kenanga, which is managed by the renowned French chef Clement Fouquere.

If you enjoy other healthier setting, try “ Bali Eco Deli” that is located on the main road behind Jungut Batu. This cozy cafe serves everything with organic & fair trade farm sources. You will definitely enjoy their fresh salad, juice and smoothies as well as coffee.

Get some taste of Italian at The Deck at Batu Karang Resort or Nyomans at Jungut Batu serving excellent local seafood with traditional setting. Another local style warung that is delicious is at Pondok Baruna, while Tigerlily will dazzle you with fresh juices and endless variety of smoothies with chia and muesli toppings.

YOGA:

Located at the northern end of Jungut Batu is a yoga spot namely Lembongan Serenity Yoga. The open air studio complete with a garden of swaying coconut trees adjacent to the beach, is the ultimate setting for yoga lovers. They offer variety of class for many levels, whether you are a beginner or advanced yogi, just pay the reasonable price of Rp 100.000 to enjoy yourself in this relaxing retreat.
