There is one temple in Bali that you must visit while taking a holiday to this exotic island. It is the Goa Gajah Temple. This temple is located in Goa Gajah main street, Bedulu village, Blahbatuh district, Gianyar regency, Bali. The temple itself is about 27 km from the center of Denpasar and if you travel from the Ngurah Rai International Airport, it will take about 1.5 hours to reach this temple with no traffic.

This tourist attraction is always crowded with tourists that came from all over the world. Usually, these tourists came to the Ubud tourist attractions using a holiday package that leads to a interesting places such as Goa Gajah temple, Kintamani tour, or the Ubud tour package. But, since there is a clear direction map toward this place, now the tourist can drive on their own to reach the Goa Gajah temple.

Located on the edge of the Petanu river that surrounded with the hundreds of years lush trees, you can see the location of  the statues in this Goa Gajah. From the parking area, you will need to down the stairs with a cool and fresh air toward the Goa Gajah temple complex. At the mouth of the cave, you will see a lot of carvings with 2 guardian statues. This cave can only be entered by one person only since it is said that this place has a function as a hermitage.

Goa Gajah Temple History

Goa Gajah temple was found in 1923 with the discovery of statues such as Trilingga Statue, Ganesha statue and the statue of Hariti, thanks to information from officials of the Netherlands East Indies. With that report, then in 1925 the study was performed. Then in 1950, the research was continued by the Ancient Department of the Republic of Indonesia by establishing sections of ancient buildings and the excavation was done in 1954-1979 which discovered the relics in the form of six statues of women with shower on her chest.
